Privacy policy
- You can browse MyNextStride without an account. We don't show ads, and we don't use tracking or advertising cookies. We count visits anonymously, without cookies.
- If you create an account, we collect only what we need to run it and to let counsellors answer your questions.
- Students under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent before they can ask counsellors questions.
- We never sell your data. You can ask us to see, correct or delete it at any time.
Who we are
MyNextStride (mynextstride.com) is a free directory of entrance exams, olympiads, competitions and other opportunities for students in Grades 8–12 in India, with guidance from counsellors. It is run by Tushar Sinha, an individual based in India, who is responsible for your personal data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. You can reach us at tsworks84@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you browse
You don't need an account to browse. If you aren't signed in, your grade choice, your saved list and your light or dark theme are stored only in your own browser and are not sent to us. If you sign in, your browser also keeps a sign-in token so you stay signed in, and your saved list is stored in your account. Our hosting providers keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run the service and protect it from abuse.
Visitor statistics
To learn which pages and exams are useful, we count visits without cookies and without storing IP addresses. Each visit sends us only the page or exam viewed, the type of device (phone, tablet or computer), the website that linked to us, and short search terms typed into our search box. To count each device once a day, your IP address and browser details are turned into a one-way code mixed with a random value that is deleted the next day. That means we can't identify you or follow you from one day to the next. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal, we don't count your visit at all. These statistics are kept for 13 months.
When you create an account
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address, or your name, email and profile picture if you sign in with Google | To sign you in and send you sign-in codes and notifications |
| First name and grade, and your stream if you choose to give it | So counsellors can give relevant advice |
| A parent or guardian's email address (for students under 18) | To ask for and record their consent |
| Your questions, follow-ups and the replies you receive | To provide the counselling service |
| Opportunities you suggest | So our editors can review them and add them to the directory |
We ask you not to share phone numbers, home addresses or other contact details in questions. Counsellors will never ask for them.
Our team
For editors, counsellors and admins, we store their email, name and role, and a record of the changes they make to the site.
Children and parental consent
Most of our users are under 18. Before a student under 18 can ask counsellors questions, we email their parent or guardian and ask them to agree. Until they do, the student can only browse, and their list stays on their own device. If a parent doesn't approve within 14 days, the account is deleted automatically. A parent who approves is asked to confirm that they are the student's parent or legal guardian and are 18 or older. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to see their child's data, withdraw consent or have the account deleted. We don't track children's behaviour, build profiles of them or show them targeted advertising.
How we use your data
- To run MyNextStride: signing you in, showing your questions and replies, and notifying you about them.
- To keep the service safe: preventing spam and abuse, and letting admins review conversations between counsellors and students.
- To publish helpful answers. A counsellor's answer may be added to our public FAQ only after names and personal details are removed and an editor has reviewed it.
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who processes your data for us
| Service | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in | Mumbai, India |
| Netlify | Website hosting | Global network of servers |
| "Sign in with Google", only if you choose it | Global | |
| Our email delivery provider | Sending sign-in codes and notifications | Global |
These providers process data only to provide their service to us. We may also share data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is in use and delete it when it is no longer needed for the purposes above. You can ask us to delete your account and all your questions at any time. We delete them within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.
Your rights
You, or your parent or guardian if you are under 18, can ask us to:
- see the personal data we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it
- withdraw consent
- nominate someone to act for you
Write to tsworks84@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database access is restricted by role: students see only their own questions; counsellors see new, unclaimed questions and the ones they handle, with only the student's first name, grade and stream; and every change to site content by our team is logged. Messages that contain phone numbers, email addresses or social media handles are blocked.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell account holders by email.
